Are you putting safety first when you’re out in rain? If you must go out before the weather clears, make sure you can see and be seen.
Before You Go:
- Make sure your wiper blades are working
- Make sure your lights and turn signals are functioning
- Check your tire pressure once a month
- Consider your route and avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas
While You’re Driving:
- Even if your vehicle has daytime running lamps, keep your headlights on.
- Resist the urge to use cruise control (or any form of autonomous driving), and pay attention to your surroundings.
- Drive slower than you otherwise would.
- Avoid braking suddenly or turning sharply, and allow extra stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
- If your car enters a skid on a wet road, keep your eyes and vehicle in the direction of the skid.
