Summer Fire Safety
Scott Kakacek

When it comes to fire, safety must be a priority, from using a firepit in your yard to building a campfire away from home, and everywhere in between.

Whether you’re using fire for ambience, cooking, or light, never let children build or extinguish a fire without adult supervision.

  • If you’re planning to be around fire, avoid long, flowy clothing, and tie back hair.
  • Never leave an indoor or outside fire unattended. Sparks can fly and cause damage to people or property.
  • Make sure any fire is fully extinguished before retiring for the evening. Notoriously dry areas of the country are prone to catastrophic forest fires, many of which begin as abandoned, nearly extinguished campfires.
