Pool ownership is a big responsibility. Here are some tips for pool owners:
Coverage: Talk to one of our Rising Star Insurance Group agents about what, if any, pool-related risks are covered by your homeowners’ insurance.
Rules: When you invite visitors over, alert them to your pool rules beforehand. You can email the rules to your guests before your event and distribute printed copies to them as they arrive. You should reiterate your expectations verbally before swimming begins; talk about the rules and explain the reasoning behind each one.
Fences: Install a fence around your pool to prevent people from using it unattended. A pool fence should be five feet tall and climb resistant. Don’t keep anything nearby that someone could use to assist them in climbing over.
Gates: A pool gate should be well-maintained, self-closing, and self-latching. It should open away from the pool.
Swimming safety:
1. Teach children to avoid drains, pipes, and other openings inside a pool
2. Have swimmers dry off before returning inside to keep indoor floors from getting slippery
3. Keep toys away from pools when they aren’t in use
From all of us at Rising Star Insurance Group, we wish you and your family a safe and fun summer.
